A member of the Army National Guard from Middletown, Connecticut has won a new roof in a nationwide contest.
Douglas Jackson, a National Guardsman since 2006, was named the winner in the “Under One Roof” giveaway by Gunner, an industry pioneer for buying roofs online.
Jackson, a father of two, had previously hired a company to add solar panels to a detached garage at his home. However, the company went out of business and never completed the project, leaving him with unusable solar panels, a loan for a project that was never finished, and limited funds for other home projects he had planned.
“I am so appreciative for the support from Gunner Roofing,” said Jackson. “All I want to do is provide a safe, dry home for my family. With Gunner’s help replacing my roof, we can use the money that would have otherwise gone towards a new roof on necessities for our children. I am so grateful that I can finally give my family the safe and dry home that they deserve.”
The conest was designed to honor a first responder, active-duty service member or veteran, and to provide the winner with a brand-new, free-of-charge, roof for their home.
“We are proud to be able to give back to Douglas Jackson, a hero who has given so much for our country, and that we can honor him on Veterans Day,” said Eddie and Andrew Prchal, co-founders at Gunner, in a joint statement. “Homeowners are so much more than clients to us. They’re vital parts of their own communities, and at Gunner, we take pride in strengthening not only these heroes’ homes but the neighborhoods in which they live.”
