Four soldiers stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) have been charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault that took place on the base in October of 2024. The victim was a student on the base who has since gone on to become a commissioned officer.
The four soldiers charged are Cpl. Pedro Angel Ruiz, Pvt. Deron J. Gordon, Spc. Jadon Bosarge and Pfc. Kallon Curiel, according to the Army. “The sexual assaults occurred at the same time and place with all charged soldiers present,” Army spokesperson Michelle McCaskill told Stars and Stripes.
Curiel is additionally being charged with sex crimes against a child in Arizona and is being held in pre-trial confinement. The four men were assigned to 125th Forward Support Company, 1st Battalion, 94th Field Artillery Regiment, 17th Field Artillery Brigade and their court-martial trials are scheduled for September and November.
The victim's name is being withheld by the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel, while the four defendants are each looking at potentially serving decades in prison, with each sex assault charge carrying a maximum sentence of 30 years.
