In Newton, emergency crews and firefighters have been on the scene Wednesday morning of a 500-gallon propane tank leaking at Forest Products in the 700 block of S. Spencer; that's in an area to the east of Newton.
The road has been closed, and officials evacuated businesses within about a half-mile radius from the site, including Forest Products, Caring Hands Humane Society, Bunting, Heritage Fire Sprinkler, and Future Foam.
Residents on the edge of the half-mile radius were asked to shelter in place as crews try to remedy the leak.
By early afternoon, officials said the hazard was mitigated, and the buildings and road conditions were returned to normal.
