It was 90 years ago on this day (1935) -- the end of an era, as Wichita's final streetcar left the roadways.
The prior evening, a special farewell trip was made by 40 Wichitans starting on the east side at Rutan & Douglas (east of Hillside), over the Riverside, Stockyards, and Wichita University (Fairmount) lines.
The last streetcar entered the car-barn at 12:45 a.m., marking the city's public transportation switch-over from streetcars to all buses.
