
A World War II Kansas veteran who died serving during Pearl Harbor, was laid to rest this week, with full military honors.
The remains of Floyd Clifford were unidentified for over eighty years. He died in the attack on Pearl Harbor. A family member searching his service records discovered that his remains had been identified.
In 2015, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) exhumed the unidentified remains of 394 sailors and marines lost on the Oklahoma, to identify them using DNA analysis so they could be returned to their families.
In September 2016, DPAA announced Seaman 2nd Class Floyd F. Clifford was accounted for.
Clifford was born in Douglas, but grew in in Mulvane. He was returned to Kansas for burial in Douglas, Kansas.
