Arrest made in early morning homicide in Wichita

A suspect has been arrested in the city's latest homicide.

Wichita Police responded early Friday to a report of an assault in the 3000 block of North Fairview, near 29th and Broadway. A caller reported seeing a man attacking another man. That suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

They found the victim, identified as Cesar Gonzalez, 43, of Wichita, unresponsive in a parking lot. Sedgwick County EMS transported him to an area hospital, where he died shortly before 2 a.m.

Officers located the suspect, a Wichita man, in the 300 block of W. 29th Street and took him into custody without incident. He had injuries consistent with the altercation and was treated and released from an area hospital.

The suspect was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on charges of first-degree murder.
