Arrest made in Wichita double homicide

The Wichita Police Department has mand an arrest in a double homicide in Wichita's Riverside neighborhood.

A man, 62 was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first degree murder.  It begain Tuesday morning just after 7:30 a.m. when officers were called to the 1100 block of N. Woodrow as part of an unknown call for EMS.

A witness had called 911 and said that they were dropping off their child at an in-home daycare and saw a man and woman through a window. FIRE and EMS arrived and pronounced the victims deceased. They were identified as Vanessa Crawford, 50, of Wichita and Donald Eckert, 58, of Wichita. Preliminary investigations revealed that both victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

While the investigation was taking place, a man 62, arrived with a gun pointed at his own head. Officers took cover for safety and immediately requested the assistance of SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. A standoff ensued with the man, but it ended peacefully when he surrendered and was taken into custody.

Formal charges are pending.
