Charges have been filed in the death of a Hesston girl, 14, who died Sunday at a home in Newton.
The Newton Police Department were called to the 900 block of S. Walnut in Newton at around 10:00 p.m. Sunday night. A boy, 16, arrived at the home where police say a group of three to four teens was hanging out. Witnesses said the suspect appeared to be visibly intoxicated and was waving a gun around. He pointed the gun at others in the room before fatally shooting the girl.
The suspect was taken into custody at his home Monday morning. He is charged with one count each of alleged first-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and criminal threat.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
