A young child was run over and killed late Monday afternoon near Goddard. It happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of south 183rd St. West.
Sheriff's deputies arrived and found a boy, 3, with massive injuries, that appeared to be from being run over by a truck.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's office said that a family member was behind the wheel of the truck, as they were maneuvering it to hitch onto a trailer. Family members said they didn't notice the child step away to adjust his flip flops. As they proceeded to hook up the truck to a trailer, they didn't see the boy sitting on the ground, and inadvertently ran over him.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials are treating the incident as an accident, but are continuing with their investigation.
