The Wichita City Council approved funding to help cover the cost of health tests of individuals who lived near the Union Pacific railroad contamination site near 29th and Grove in north Wichita.

In 2024, the Kansas Legislature appropriated $2.5 million for the testing. In January, Sedgwick County and the KDHE entered into an agreement, which transferred $1.5 million to the county. An additional $1 million is available through a local $1 for $1 match.

The Kansas Health Foundation will provide $500 thousand, while the county and the city will each provide $125 thousand. The deadline to obtain the total $1 million local match is June 30.
