The Wichita City Council has approved a contract with Cure Violence Global (CVG) to develop a strategy to reduce violent crime.

CVG was founded in 1995 and has worked with other communities like Kansas City, Des Moines, Iowa; and San Antonio, Texas to reduce violent crime in their respective cities.
The city says violent crime has risen steadily since 2016 and is primarily concentrated in areas of the city enduring social and economic distress.
The first year of the contract is worth $125 thousand and will be covered by ARPA funding. The city has the option to renew for up to four additional one-year terms, so a total of $1.5 million has been set aside for the program.
