City Council will discuss new parking plan for Wichita

Lily Wu
City of Wichita

At Tuesday's meeting, the Wichita City Council will discuss a possible new parking plan for downtown, Old Town, and Delano. City staff has come up with several options. Mayor LilyWu tells KNSS News she has reviewed 30 contracts with businesses and found that some businesses are still paying the same rate they were in the 1990s. Wu says that's the reason deferred maintenance may cost the city $18 million. She wants to find out who is responsible and make the whole process more open to public scrutiny. Wu says only half the beds at the new shelter are being used.

The city council will also look at illegal camping during Tuesday's meeting. Mayor Wu tells KNSS News the city's approach should be to encourage people to get off the streets and into the city's new winter homelesse shelter on north Main.

Wu commented during Mondays with the Mayor on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
