The Wichita City Council has begun the lengthy process of hiring a new City Manager.
The council approved a new agenda item for next Tuesday's meeting, to set up the request for proposal to hire an outside consultant that will conduct the new manager search.
The city's last big hire was Police Chief Joe Sullivan, which took around 7 months. Pam Pennington with the city's HR department says the RFP played a huge role in the process.
The council hopes to hire a new city manager before the end of the year, before current City Manager Robert Layton retires. During the process, the city will receive public input and future search committees will properly vet potential candidates for the job.
