For the first time in a public meeting, Sedgwick County Commissioners offered their opinions on the topic of data centers.
The county has held several open houses, but only for residents to provide feedback.
Commissioner Stephanie Wise said she does not support hyper-scale data centers at all, but wouldn't rule out smaller projects. Meanwhile Commissioner Ryan Baty said the county could not do something that would knowingly raise utility rates for customers.
The commission recently extended the pause on data centers to June 11, citing the need for additional public comments and more time to research best practices and draft potential zoning code.
