Sedgwick County Commissioners unanimously approved a temporary continuation of their automatic and mutual fire aid agreement with four county communities.

Valley Center, Mount Hope, Cheney and Clearwater requested the agreement be extended to September 23 while each community completed their respective budgeting processes.

In May, Commissioners voted to terminate the automatic and mutual aid agreement response for those communities and the city of Colwich.

Commissioner Ryan Baty said he would not have supported a longer extension, citing safety concerns and the sense of urgency to get a deal finalized.

Colwich was not included as it has an auto-aid agreement with the city of Wichita.
