The letter of commitment to the Kansas Department of Transportation will help extend improvements on east Kellogg, from the K-96 interchange to about a half-mile east of the Sedgwick-Butler County line.
The city of Wichita will commit $13.3 million, while KDOT will fund the bulk of the project's cost: $204.4 million of the total $225 million budget.
The county says the project will use a progressive design-build approach that will save travelers around 1.3 million hours of travel delays.
The team that will design and build the improvements will be chosen by September. Construction is expected to be finished by 2025.
