Coronavirus cases are showing an increase in Sedgwick County. And officials say there's concern about the latest sub-variants.
Adrienne Byrne, Sedgwick County Health Department director, said the virus is continuing to mutate. That means people who test positive for COVID-19 won't stay immune for as long as with the earlier variants of the virus.
She said when the school year starts, she expects more COVID cases because of students and teachers returning to the classroom.
While there are no calls for a return to mask mandates, health officials are once again emphasizing the need for booster shots and wearing masks while indoors.
