The Derby Board of Education has rejected a proposed social studies curriculum for high school students over concerns that some materials are biased against President-elect Donald Trump.

A majority on the Board voted down a proposed contract for the materials, which would have cost around $400,000, and was recommended by Derby High School teachers.

Some board members also voiced concerns about the publisher and statements made on Houghton Mifflin Harcourt website.

Following the vote, the board’s president, directed administrators to look for different textbooks and materials, and teachers who would be willing to try them.

In Kansas, local school boards, and not the state, make decisions about curriculum and textbooks.
