Sedgwick County employees will have 11 paid holidays in 2024, the same number as 2023.
Sedgwick County Commissioners approved the measure at Wednesday's meeting. Back in 2022, the board approved adding Juneteenth to the county's holiday list to bring it to the current total.
Commissioner Jim Howell said he would like the county to consider making the 11th day a floating holiday that employees could choose to use whenever they wished. Commissioner Sarah Lopez warned of negative consequences if the county removed Juneteenth as a paid holiday.
The county says after payroll taxes, KAPERS, unemployment and other taxes, they will pay around $150 thousand more in wages compared to a normal, non-holiday work day.
