The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday morning in Grainfield, Kansas. Just after 8 a.m. Friday, a Gove County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a disturbance call in Grainfield, KS. Two men at the scene were having a heated argument.
According to The Gove County Sheriff's office, the deputy discovered that 30-year-old Ty Kaiser had struck a 63-year-old relative. When the deputy gave commands for Kaiser to get down on the ground, Kaiser initially complied. But then he stood up and attempted to leave.
According to the deputy's account of events, the deputy then deployed a taser. The taser was ineffective. Kaiser then charged the deputy and struck him. The deputy then drew his firearm and fired one round that struck and killed Kaiser.
The deputy and relative were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy was released from the hospital Friday afternoon, after evaluation and is recovering from his injuries.
The KBI is conducting an independent investigation. When the investigation concludes, case findings will be presented to the Gove County Attorney.
