The arrest stems from the investigation of a stabbing that fatally injured 44-year-old Jayson Stalkup of Wichita.

Late Sunday afternoon, officers were dispatched to a stabbing in the 2700 block of N. Amidon. Officers located Stalkup in a parking lot with multiple stab wounds; he died on the scene.

At around the same time officers were sent to the stabbing, an injury accident was called in two blocks south of that location. Officers arrived in the 2500 block of N. Amidon and contacted Johnston, whom they identified as the suspect in the stabbing.

The investigation revealed the two were involved in an altercation at an apartment complex when Johnston fatally stabbed Stalkup; it's believed the two men knew each other.

Johnston was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, then transported to the Sedgwick County Jail; the case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office.
