A 2-alarm apartment fire on the city's west side caused an estimated $1.25 million in damages.
Wichita Fire crews responded before 5 p.m. Saturday to the Silver Spring Apartments, in the 900 block of north Ridge Road. Officials say the fire was started by discarded smoking materials.
Water damage was reported in all 16 units of the apartment building. Displaced residents were provided shelter by the Red Cross.
It took a couple of hours for crews to finish their work. No injuries were reported.
