Fire crews responded to building fire Saturday afternoon in south Wichita.
It happened just before 1 p.m., at the former site of the Grace United Methodist Church, located on the northeast corner of E. Gilbert and S. Topeka.
Battalion Chief Jose Ocadiz said the fire started in the basement of the structure and spread to part of the first floor. He said the damage caused by the blaze was more severe than past fires at the location, which has been occupied by homeless individuals. He says fire officials and the building's owner are working to get the property secured.
No injuries were reported. A cause for the fire has not been determined.
