The Fourth of July season got underway Friday morning in Wichita; residents are now able to buy and shoot off fireworks within the city limits.

Tents have popped up across Wichita during the past several days; they opened for business at 10 a.m. Friday.

Wichita fireworks tents may be open daily from 10:00 a.m. until midnight through the night of July 5. Residents may also start shooting off “safe and sane” fireworks as of 10 a.m. Friday, but the firing of aerial fireworks must legally wait until July 3.

All fireworks sales and their use must end at midnight on the night of July 5.

Fines for those not following the local ordinances begin at $1,000, and increase if caught violating the rules again.

To report a fireworks-related complaint, don’t call 911; Sedgwick County’s non-emergency hotline opens at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That number is (316) 290-1011. It will open daily from 6 p.m. until 3 a.m., and the line remains open through July 6.
