During the Goddard City Council meeting on Monday, Mayor Hunter Larkin, announced that he was stepping down. His statement said in part that by temporarily stepping down, it would give him an opportunity to focus on a statehouse race. He then handed the meeting over to vice Mayor Larry Zimmerman.

City Council Member Michael Proctor appeared confused by the action and asked if Larkin's action was a resignation or temporary. Zimmerman called it a resignation.
Another council member made a motion to accept the resignation, and it was seconded. The council then voted to accept Larkin’s resignation.
