The Wichita City Council held another public hearing Tuesday on the proposed 2027 operating budget, which totals $825 million.
That budget has a proposed mill levy of 32.34 mills, flat from 2026. It is balanced thanks to a $3 million transfer from the city's stabilization fund. The budget leans heavily into public safety, with 67 percent of General Fund expenditures allocated for police and fire department activities.
Council member JV Johnston voiced concerns about the rapid growth of city government.
