Three people are dead following a crash Friday near Hillsboro.
It happened around noon, about one mile east of Hillsboro on U.S. 56, and involved two vehicles.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says a pickup towing a trailer with twenty greyhounds was traveling west, while another vehicle, possibly an SUV or minivan, was headed east.
"For an unknown reason, one vehicle went left of center causing nearly a head-on crash resulting in the multiple fatalities," said Trooper Ben Gardner.
Two adults in the pickup and a man driving the other vehicle died at the scene. Two young children in the man's vehicle were transported to a Wichita hospital with serious injuries.
Three of the greyhounds also died, the others ran off.
No names have been released, but officials confirmed they were all from the immediate area.
