Federal authorities have released the results of a three-day Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation that took place in the southwest part of Kansas last week.
On Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security told the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas that ICE agents made 104 arrests.
U.S. Attorney Ryan Kriegshauser said the operation in Kansas, which reached as far east as Hutchinson, focused on locating and detaining non-citizens with prior criminal convictions, pushing back against criticism that the operations constituted indiscriminate roundups.
Kriegshauser said claims suggesting that these efforts were discriminatory ‘sweeps’ based on skin color and race are misguided and irresponsible, and that such rhetoric stokes fear and risks unnecessary harm to Kansas industries.
