Democrat officials filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to force the Trump administration to replenish benefits in the SNAP food assistance program.
A group of attorneys general and governors for 25 states, including Kansas and the District of Columbia made the filing in federal court. They claim that the administration is legally required to use a contingency fund to pay for continuing benefits.
They believe the fund with roughly $5 billion-dollars would be enough to pay benefits for more than half a month.
