The Kansas Humane Society and the Wichita Animal Shelter are both at maximum capacity. Adopters are urgently needed to save lives. Kansas Humane Society has 137 pets currently available for adoption and an additional 300 pets in our care, as of Monday morning.

A weekend-long event, Bring Home Happiness National Adoption Weekend, encourages people to open up their homes to adoptable animals by choosing to adopt, not buy, their next pet.
There will be $25 adoption fees for adult dogs (6 months +) and kittens (under 1 year). Included with adoption is spay/neuter,
microchip and age appropriate vaccinations. Friday, December 9 through Sunday December 11 at the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N Hillside, Wichita, KS.
National data trends show that 2022 has been a tough year for shelters. Across the country, shelters are struggling with higher intake, while live outcomes, such as adoptions, fosters and rescues are not keeping pace. This has led to a population imbalance, with more animals in shelters staying for longer periods. Additionally, many shelters are facing challenges with staffing shortages, limited hours, decreased volunteers, and reduced adoption events.
All this adds up to the current crisis of most U.S. shelters being at or over capacity, resulting in pets being more at risk due to lack of space.
There's no appointment needed to adopt or visit with available animals.
