A Kansas hero from the Korean War is being honored in an ongoing graphic novel series.

The Association of the United States Army says its newest entry in the Medal of Honor graphic novel series will feature Father Emil Kapaun.

Born and raised in Pilsen, Kansas, Father Kapaun is the most decorated chaplain in Army history. Known for his courage and spiritual guidance, Kapaun stayed to treat the wounded when Chinese forces overwhelmed his unit during the Korean War.

His remains were finally identified four years ago, 70 years after Kapaun died in the war; the Wichita Diocese of the Catholic Church is hoping for sainthood for Fr. Kapaun.

In 2013, Kapaun was awarded the nation’s highest military decoration: the Medal of Honor.

AUSA is now celebrating Father Kapaun's story with a full-color digital book, created by professional comic book authors and artists.

A paperback version of the graphic novel will be printed for the AUSA Annual Meeting.

The Medal of Honor series started seven years ago, and has since published 28 issues.

Father Kapaun's remains are entombed in downtown Wichita, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at Central & Broadway.
