Governor Laura Kelly has issued a disaster declaration for today due to wildfire potential.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of Kansas, except the southeast corner of the state, for that extreme fire danger. Dry vegetation, gusty winds and low humidity will fuel the possibility of rapid fire spread.
Outdoor burning is discouraged, and anyone in the state should be cautious when doing activities that could spark a fire, like smoking or grilling outdoors.
The declaration allows the state to support local communities with fire suppression resources.
