Severe thunderstorms came through south-central Kansas late Monday night, featuring high winds.

A wind gust of 84 miles per hour was recorded at the airport in Newton, east of town; and a wind gust of 65 miles per hour came through Bel Aire, on the north side of the Wichita area.

Multiple wind gusts of 90 miles per hour were recorded in Marion County, to the north-northeast of Wichita. Also in Marion County, the AgriTrails Fertilizer Plant had its roof blown off. At Marion Reservoir, there was heavy rain and zero visibility.

And even further to the north, a wind gust of 113 miles per hour was reported in the Salina area.

Many Evergy customers lost power in Harvey County, in the Newton area, including Newton Medical Center.

There was some tree damage in the Whitewater area, in the northeast part of Sedgwick County, with branches down about five inches in diameter.

In Butler County, anticipating winds in excess of 90 miles per hour, a shelter was opened at the Fire Station in Burns. In the El Dorado area, power lines were down, causing a tree fire.
