
The Kansas Department of Transportation will close both northbound and southbound I-135 in Wichita for construction beginning Friday, June 20, through Saturday afternoon. Rain last weekend delayed work on a bridge.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, southbound I-135 will be closed from the K-254 interchange to just past the K-96 interchange. The the work will also close several ramps.
- The I-235 ramps to southbound I-135, including the newly constructed I-235 connector ramp to K-96
- The ramp from westbound K-96 to southbound I-135
- The exit loop ramp to North Broadway Avenue from southbound I-235
- The ramp from Hydraulic Avenue to southbound I-135.
Southbound I-135 is expected to reopen by Saturday afternoon, northbound I-135 will be closed at the K-96/I-135 interchange. Traffic will be diverted to eastbound K-96, where drivers will exit at Hillside Street and use westbound K-96 to return to northbound I-135. Northbound I-135 is anticipated to reopen by 6 a.m. Saturday afternoon. Motorists will not be able to turn north or south onto Hillside Street from the detour route on K-96.
KDOT urges motorists to allow extra travel time, follow posted detour signs and use alternate routes.
