The Kansas Department of Transportation will close northbound I-135 under the I-135/U.S. 54 interchange in Wichita beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, until approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, conditions permitting. The closure is necessary for crews to set bridge girders and install false floors as part of ongoing bridge construction.
During this time, the following ramps will also be closed:
- Eastbound U.S. 54 to northbound I-135
- Eastbound U.S. 54 on- and off-ramps at Hillside Street
- Grove Street on-ramp to eastbound U.S. 54
- Harry Street on-ramps to northbound I-135
- Lincoln Street on-ramp to northbound I-135
Message boards and signage will be in place to alert and guide motorists. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the closure area and use alternate routes. Drivers should plan for extra travel time, follow posted detour signs and exercise caution while traveling through the area.
