In a case of aggravated battery, a two-year-old girl was hospitalized in potentially critical condition and the girl's mother was also taken to the hospital after the two were kidnapped from Wichita and taken to Cheney Lake, according to authorities.
The little girl was shot in the back at Cheney Lake, as the woman was trying to get them away from the suspect; the mom drove back towards Wichita before calling 911. The girl's mother called for help from the car shortly after noon on 61st Street North, to the west of Andale.
Several law enforcement agencies searched for an armed male suspect on the run in this case in a rural area of both Sedgwick & Reno counties. Some people in the Cheney Lake area were sheltering in place as the search continued. After more than two hours, law enforcement personnel did take a suspect into custody.
