A large grassfire in northeast Wichita has damaged two barns, but no homes, and no injuries were reported.
It began just after 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at a sports complex near K-96 and Greenwich Road.
Multiple crews, including the Andover Fire Department, a Butler County Fire Department crew out of Benton, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and Sedgwick County EMS, joined forces in battling the wind driven fire.
Tanker 95 with the Kansas Forest Service arrived around 5:00 p.m. and was able to drop water directly on the heart of the blaze.
Crews are monitoring the scene overnight as weather risks create the possibility of flair ups.
