The Wichita City Council and Sedgwick County Commission gathered Tuesday to discuss a variety of issues, including the desire for a law school in the Wichita area.
Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett believes the most viable option would be a satellite campus hosted by Washburn University or the University of Kansas, home of the state's two law schools. Bennett said the Kansas Board of Regents, state legislators and the schools would have to be involved in the discussion. Additionally, he believes a feasibility study would help answer a number of questions on the topic.
The Pinnacle wellness center for first responders is progressing. The building has been purchased in the downtown area, and a contractor has been selected. Work should begin in July, with a completion date slated for the first quarter of 2027.
The group also engaged in a lengthy discussion on homelessness and mental health issues.
