Sedgwick County officials testified at the state capitol in Topeka in favor of legislation aimed at reducing long wait times at vehicle tag offices across Kansas.

The Senate Committee on Transportation is looking at a bill modernizing tag-office operations statewide.

Sedgwick County experienced dramatic increases in residents using the tag offices because of a state law requiring personalized license plates be renewed in years ending in '0' or '5'.

Another provision in the bill would allow counties to increase fees charged at tag offices. The fees aim to help give better and faster service, allowing the county to hire more employees to address staffing shortages.
