During the 4:00 a.m. hour Tuesday, several fire crews, including personnel from Wichita, Sedgwick County, and McConnell Air Force Base, responded to a building fire on the Spirit AeroSystems campus at Kansas Turnpike Drive & Highway K-15 in the southeast part of Wichita.
A spokesperson for Spirit said lightning struck the exterior of the building, which caught fire.
The building was evacuated, 30 employees got out safely, and the structure was closed for hours.
Hazardous materials crews were on the scene, assessing whether there was any chemical exposure after the lightning strike.
