The Wichita City Council has approved additional funding for a major sanitary sewer line relocation project in the southern part of the city.

The engineer's original estimate for the project was $24.45 million. However, the lowest construction bid received by the city was $13.5 million higher. Public Works Director Gary Janzen says it's a very complex project with I-135, the canal and a railroad line all in the same area.

The project will be re-bid soon and work should begin in December.

In other council news, the body approved the permanent name of Millwood Park for a new park created this summer. The location at 500 N. McLean Blvd. had been given the temporary name of "Poem Park" back in July.
