Man arrested in Wichita murder investigation

Wichita Police have arrested a 35-year-old Wichita man for 1st Degree Murder, in the death of 66-year-old Brenda McNeely of Wichita.

Just after 3 p.m. Friday, Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of N. Chautauqua for a welfare check on McNeely. Officers learned that she was possibly inside the residence injured and in need of help. Officers forced open the door and found McNeely with a fatal stab wound.

Police learned that the suspect was involved in a disturbance with McNeely, which ultimately led to her death. Officers acting on leads apprehended the suspect and took him into custody. Police say the victim and the suspect knew each other. They add that there are no outstanding suspects involved.

This case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office. The identification of the suspect will not be made by WPD until formal charges are filed.
