February 25th marks a decade since the mass shooting in Hesston at Excel Industries.
Three people were killed and 14 others injured in a series of shootings in Newton and Hesston, with 89 gunshots fired by the shooter, a painter for Excel, who had an extensive criminal history; he was killed by a responding police officer.
There's a public memorial service at 2:15 Wednesday afternoon at the Memorial Trees on Commerce Drive in Hesston.
There's also going to be a documentary video posted on the Hesston Public Library’s website after the memorial service.
An autopsy on the shooter's body indicated high levels of methamphetamine and alcohol in his system; he had "more than 135 times the standard dose" of meth at the time of his death.
