Wichita's Mayor looks for Fire Department "debriefing" about the Fourth

Mayor Lily Wu
City of Wichita

38 people were treated at Wichita-area hospitals for firework-related injuries during the 4th-of-July holiday. KNSS News asked Mayor Lily Wu if she sees any need to alter the City's fireworks ordinance. Wu says the Fire Department will debrief the City Council about this year's Fourth, and the Council would like to hear from the public on fireworks policy. Wu says Kansas lawmakers changed state law last year to allow for increased fireworks sale and use. She says local communities can look at their own fireworks codes.

At Tuesday's meeting, the Wichita City Council will discuss an "open container" ordinance for the Delano District. Mayor Lily Wu tells KNSS News the ordinance would allow people in Delano to take an open liquor container from one restaurant or bar to another.

Wu commented during Mondays with the Mayor on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
