Sedgwick County Commission Chair Meitzner promoting passenger rail service for Wichita

Pete Meitzner
KNSS NEWS

Sedgwick County Commission Chair Pete Meitzner travelled to Normal, Illinois this week, promoting passenger rail service for Wichita, which went away in 1979. Meitzner is one of three Kansas delegates to the Midwest Inter-city Passenger Rail meeting. He says there is competition from several states to regain passenger rail service. Meitzner says the route between Oklahoma City and Newton, running through Wichita, has several advantages; the track is already in place and there are no mountains or waterways to deal with.

Meitzner says he's hopeful that the AMTRAK passenger route will be restored between Oklahoma City and Newton. Meitzner commented during his weekly chat with Steve and Ted in the Morning on KNSS.
