The Game and Fish Commission in Arkansas says the body of a missing kayaker last seen on May 3 has been recovered from the Mulberry River in Northwest Arkansas.
The body of 57-year-old Hector Rios of Wichita was found Thursday afternoon by the Franklin County Search and Rescue Team.
His body was found in an area known as "the shoe", where the search had been taking place, located along the riverbank near some brush.
Rios was not wearing his life jacket, which was found with the kayak.
AGFC previously told KNWA-TV in Fayetteville they'd found Rios’ kayak; Rios has taken photos and posted them on social media while on the water. The commission got the photos and began looking at the places where the photos were taken.
The location of the kayak and the photos helped narrow the dive team’s search.
Rios’ body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy, which is standard for all boating fatalities.
