The city of Wichita provided an update on the mold situation at some fire stations around town.

Firefighters vacated Station 15 at Lincoln and Rock Road on February 14. Mold was discovered in some of the duct work, which has since been plugged up as remediation efforts are underway. After that work and additional air testing is complete, the city hopes to bring crews back after March 6.

Fire Chief Tammy Snow, who will retire in August after nearly 40 years with the department, says Station 11 at 1845 S. George Washington Blvd is next. Station 11 will have similar work done and the city tentatively plans to move firefighters to the Regional Training Facility near 31st Street South and Oliver.

Two other stations, 3 and 13, who had visible mold, may have repairs done without relocating firefighters.

The city doesn't have a price tag for all of the planned work, but says it will be paid for through the CIP maintenance fund.
