The Wichita City Council discussed electric buses, water conservation and more at their Tuesday meeting.

The council approved a $7.7 million grant proposal, which would add more electric buses to the Wichita Transit fleet. The city says the buses would cost less to operate and have fewer impacts on the environment. Wichita Transit currently operates 11 electric buses.

The water conservation rebate program is back for 2021. This program started in 2013 and has saved the city and estimated 330 million gallons of water. If a current Wichita water customer purchases a qualifying device, like a new dishwasher or high efficiency toilet, they can receive a $100 credit on their water bill.

The council approved $100 thousand for safety improvements near and around Wichita schools. The city will split the cost with U.S.D. 259.

Look for several bridge projects across town, including the removal of the 10th Street Bridge and sidewalk repairs on the 15th Street bridge, both over the Canal route. The city also plans to make embankment repairs at the Eisenhower Parkway bridge. The total budget for 2021 is $500 thousand.
