The Wichita City Council has selected a new council member for District III.

At the last city council meeting, Jared Cerullo received the most votes at 3. The winning candidate needed 4 to secure the seat.

The council's first two rounds of ballot voting Tuesday yielded the same results as the last meeting. The vote changed in the third round when Council member Cindy Claycomb altered her vote from Cindy Miller to Cerullo. Council members Jeff Blubaugh, Bryan Frye and Becky Tuttle also voted for Jared Cerullo while Vice Mayor Brandon Johnson and Mayor Brandon Whipple voted for Joseph Shepard.

Cerullo will be sworn in at next week's consent agenda meeting. He will fill the seat until January 10, 2022. He replaces James Clendenin, who resigned at the end of 2020.
