The Wichita City Council approved a plan for development in the Riverside area.

The approximately 90-acre site near Sims Park Street and 11th Street will have 40 patio homes developed on it. The city established the area as a TIF district, worth $1.7M to assist with construction of the project, along with riverbank and trailhead improvements.

The developer plans to invest around $8 million into the project. Construction should begin within 90 days.

In other council news, the city has moved another step forward in making improvements to its sewer treatment facilities.

Those improvements are necessary thanks to current and future regulatory requirements concerning the treatment of the waste water.

The city conducted a cost evaluation study, to determine the lowest capitol cost and the lowest 40-year lifecycle plant cost. The council approved a $353 million plan, for which the city hopes to secure federal and state funding. Financing and design will take a couple of years with construction tentatively scheduled to start in 2023.

Along with regulatory compliance, the updated plant will be better suited for any future expansion and will allow for better odor control.
